Joseph’s Parish Shrine, Pavaratty was founded on 13th April 1876. Palayur, where the first church in India got instituted by St.Thomas, the Apostle, is 5 kms away and it reveals the existence of a Christian Community here since the Ist century A.D. Prior to the establishment of this Parish the Christians of the locality were under St. Sebastian’s Church, Chittattukara. Later, when this church was founded, the forefathers dedicated the church to St. Joseph, the Patron of workers. Popular traditions about the initial stages of the establishment, which are still alive, speak of the miraculous bounty of Our Patron. >>more |
